About Sergio Torres, LCSW

I'm a Psychotherapist and Owner of Torres Psychotherapy. I work with adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, racial stress, and men's issues, especially when these challenges show up as overthinking, emotional shutdown, anger, compulsive habits, or feeling disconnected from themselves. Many of the people I work with aren't just looking to feel less anxious or overwhelmed, they're trying to understand who they are, how they got here, and what kind of life they want to build. Together, we explore the patterns, beliefs, and experiences that have shaped them so they can live with greater clarity, authenticity, and purpose.

My work is grounded in the belief that meaningful change comes from developing a healthier relationship with yourself first. Whether we're discussing identity, relationships, masculinity, culture, life transitions, or emotional well-being, I strive to create a space where you can be honest without fear of judgment. My approach is collaborative, curious, and down-to-earth. I believe therapy should challenge you while also helping you feel understood, supported, and empowered to create lasting change. Over time, many of my clients develop greater confidence, stronger relationships, healthier habits, and a renewed sense of vitality and ownership over their lives.

As a first-generation Dominican and New Yorker, my worldview has been shaped by experiences with poverty, institutional racism, oppression, and the unique expectations often placed on BIPOC men in America. I understand what it feels like to navigate questions of identity, belonging, masculinity, and success while balancing cultural values with personal growth. Through my own journey, I learned the importance of challenging unhealthy norms, living in alignment with my values, and building a fulfilling life despite the messages society often sends us. Those experiences continue to shape the empathy, perspective, and authenticity I bring into the therapy room.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent nine years working in Human Resources. I entered the field believing I could make a meaningful difference in people's professional lives. Over time, however, I realized that many organizations prioritize protecting the business over supporting the well-being of employees. That realization led me to question my career path and reconnect with something that had always felt deeply meaningful: creating a safe space where people could openly explore life's challenges, strengthen their relationships, reconnect with themselves, and grow into the people they wanted to become.

That journey inspired me to return to school, become a Psychotherapist, and eventually found Torres Psychotherapy. Today, I have the privilege of helping individuals cultivate healthier relationships, navigate life's challenges with greater resilience, embrace their authentic selves, and create lives that feel meaningful, intentional, and aligned with their values. I believe growth isn't about becoming someone else, it's also about discovering who you've always had the potential to be.
